Healthy Kids Checks for 3 year olds
A relaxed, longer appointment with your GP at Oxford Street Medical Centre to look at how your child is growing, talking, playing and learning. It’s also a chance to ask about anything that’s been on your mind.

Who is the check for?
Medicare eligible children who are 3 years old on the day of the appointment, from their third birthday up to the day before they turn 4.
Each child can have one Medicare Healthy Kids Check in their lifetime. If your child has already had one at another clinic, please let us know when you call.
What to bring
- Your child’s Medicare card
- Their red book (Personal Health Record), if you have it
- Any notes or reports from childcare, kindy or other health professionals
- A list of your questions or anything you’ve noticed
Handy tip: the red book has a short development questionnaire for children aged 2½ to 3½. Filling it in at home beforehand gives you and your GP a great starting point.
What happens at the visit?
Your GP brings together your child’s health history, anything you or their educators have noticed, and a gentle, basic check. It covers four areas.
Health and growth
Medical history, immunisations, allergies, height and weight.
Development and wellbeing
Talking, playing, moving, learning, behaviour, and social and emotional development.
Eyes, hearing and teeth
A basic check of eyesight, hearing, and teeth and gums.
Everyday routines
Eating, sleep, active play, screen time, toileting, and childcare or kindy.
Afterwards, your GP talks you through what they found, gives practical advice and arranges any follow up or referrals your child needs. You’ll be offered a written report to keep. Taking part is always your choice.

There’s no need to wait for a Healthy Kids Check. If you have any concerns about your child’s health or development, book a normal GP appointment and we’ll see your child. Children of any age can always see a GP for a usual appointment.
